If a customer is looking to set up a Direct Debit with you but they are unsure if their bank accepts Direct Debits, the best advise we can give is for your customer to speak with their bank directly. Alternatively, the customer may use online banking or have some documentation from when they opened the account which will explain which types of payments are allowed.

Most high street and online banks will allow Direct Debits, however not all account types do. For example, you may be able to set up a Direct Debit if you bank with an 'online only' bank, but not if you only hold a Savings Account.

Another way to check whether the customer's bank details are correct is by using a bank validation tool online.
