Before updating a bank reference, make sure you have the account holder’s permission. This action will cancel their current Direct Debit and create a new one.
Their bank will notify them of the change, and it may also result in a setup charge depending on your pricing.
Edit a Bank Reference
Within the CUSTOMERS tab, find the customer by searching any of the fields.
Click View Customer eye icon. This opens the customer's PROFILE.
Click the customer’s CONTRACTS tab within their profile.
On the contract row click the green cog icon and select Edit Bank Reference from the dropdown.
A box will appear explaining that updating the Bank Reference will cancel the existing Direct Debit and set up a new one.
Enter the new Bank Reference containing the following format requirements:
Be 6-18 characters long
Start with a letter or number
Contain only letters (A-Z), numbers (0-9), spaces, and characters &, -, and /
Click Update Reference to confirm.
📌Note: The Update Reference button will remain greyed out until the reference entered meets all format requirements. This provides immediate feedback on whether your reference is valid.
